Virtual dinner party invitation

Today I am hosting a virtual dinner party and you are all invited! But before anything else, I'd like to thank The Toothfairy who tagged me. She is such a witty beautiful adorable sweet girl who works as a dentist (so yes, she is VERY intelligent, so she does not only posses beauty but also brains) and writes a blog (where does she find time for everything God only knows...).

The question is: If you were going to allow us to spend a night at your home, we'd like to know the following:

1. What books are on your favourite shelf?
Actually, I don't have shelves yet, so my books are all over the floor at the moment. In nice neat piles, but on the floor. If I have to pick three, then the list would look like this:

“Lolita” by Vladimir Nabokov
“Alchemist” by Paolo Coelho
“A dog’s heart” by Mikhail Bulgakov

2. What DVD are on your favourite shelf?
Again, no shelves. Everything is in a box and away. I am not a kind of person who displays DVDs on a shelf. And even if I had shelves than I'd use them for the books, flowers and pretty things that please my eye, not videos/DVDs.
It's difficult to choose just three movies I'd watch over and over again, so I'll go with "Under the Tuscan Sun", "Family Stone" and "Because I said so".

3. What are your two favourite cook books?

Can I pick three? Please....

Michel Roux's Finest Desserts
New British Classic by Gary Rhodes
The Ultimate Recipe book by BBC Good Food magazine

4. Select 1-3 recipes you will cook for your special guests.

Starter: double baked cheese souffle with white grape sauce
Main: wild mushroom risotto
Dessert: white chocolate mousse cake

5. What drinks will be available?
Prosecco and still/sparkling water and then coffee.
I must confess, I don't really drink. I think it only happens a few times a year and if I do, then it's either prosecco, Kindzmarauli (gorgeous Georgian wine), port or cognac.

And I'd love to visit Sofie, Haute World, Anya, Sarah, OceanDreams and CoutureCarrie. I am accepting your invitations, darlings! Whenever you are ready. ;)

xxx

Psycho-logic by Christian Louboutin

Loved this short Hitchcock-inspired film written and directed by Christian Louboutin to celebrate the opening of his LA boutique. A nightmare that turns into a dream for gorgeous Elisa Sednaoui who finds herself in Heaven full of glitter and, of course, Louboutins (that as far as I can see all come in her size :) ) and then gets a chance to meet Monsieur Louboutin himself. I was also very happy to see that Mika is back and his music is great as always because I adore him (and yes, I've just ordered his new album).

Fashion quote

"Fashion is a tool … to compete in life outside the home. People like you better, without knowing why, because people always react well to a person they like the looks of."

Modern minimalism: i-toc watch and GIVEAWAY

"Design must always remember function otherwise it becomes art or sculpture. It may become beautiful art or sculpture but if the function is lost, forgotten or neglected the design has failed."
- Sean Zoega

I am feeling really happy today. Not only because the sun is shining, the sky is blue and I had my delicious cup of coffee in the morning, but also because I love receiving presents and surprises and today was one of those days. I opened the door and there was a postman holding a small box. It was my new watch sent to me by Sean Zoega, the designer of these beautiful unique creations.

Sean Zoega is an unorthodox designer who has managed to synthesise the supposedly opposing disciplines of engineering and design. Originally graduating as an electronics engineer, Sean quickly employed his skills in the areas of meta art providing music synthesizers to major artists of the time (Jean Michel Jarre, Hawkwind, Brian Eno etc.)

“The interplay of science and art has always for me been the critical stimulation of human creativity, be it the invention of colour pigments or dyes that change art and fashion forever or the synthesizer that has made possible new music with sounds that have never before existed in human experience."

Before the i-toc was born, Sean has been busy creating recording environments for international festivals such as Holders Season in Barbados to more orthodox recording studios for K-Klass and Ian Brown. He has also created audio/visual installations all over the world for large corporates such as Disney, Cable & Wireless, Wellcome Trust… even the NHS. His work on psychoacoustics also led to his developments in artificial intelligence which culminated in the HyperTeach AI learning engine.

“Through all my work with music, sound and visuals I came to realize I was always slicing time, applying textures (aural and visual) and then rebuilding the parts to create a coherent whole…art and design are all about time. This was what sparked my interest in redesigning the watch. This has taken over ten years of my life to develop and has culminated in the i-toc. The i-toc is simple, but it wasn’t easy."

I adore my new watch. Personally, I think this is one of those time pieces that won't go unnoticed. This gorgeous sample of minimalistic design has already been compared to EleeNo and Issey Miyake watches, but unlike its designery siblings does not cost a fortune.

It's unique, it makes you smile, it's unisex'y, it comes in 6 colours from classic black and grey to vibrant orange (that was my choice), red, blue and purple. The i-toc’s graduated circles present a more intuitive and beautiful way to view time, and the distinctive visual pattern is constantly changing and is super easy to read. Each colour is limited to 200 to 500 pieces, which makes the watch even more special and desirable.

If you are tempted and would like to see and read more, please visit the i-toc website.

So are you tempted yet? Then the best news are still to come because now one of my wonderful followers can actually receive an i-toc watch as a present from Sean Zoega himself! All you need to do is to visit his website to choose the colour and leave a comment here (don't forget to mention what colour you'd prefer). You have a week to enter. The competition closes on 30 September 2009 and the lucky winner will be announced on 2 October 2009.

If you don't win or prefer not to follow FashionTitbits ;) you can still buy your little treasure here and receive a 10% discount. The discount code will be sent to you via e-mail, so I'd appreciate it if you could take a couple of minutes to send me your e-mail address.

Good luck!

London fashion week: Burberry Prorsum

Christopher Bailey made me proud of being British. His Spring/Summer 2010 collection was such a magnificent delight of soft dreamy marshmallow pastels, glamour, gorgeousness, youth and freshness that I had an urge of hugging my TV (since I couldn't give a hug to Mr. Bailey himself). The dresses created of draped tulle and silks were a pure temptation, the trench coats with their sculpted draping sleeve details could be worn as an evening dress and the shoes made of draped soft leather caused a craving in me. I adored a beautiful combination of delicate fabrics of the dresses and leather belts that added a modern touch, a touch of chic safari trend, the buttery softness of bags, the amber bracelets, the natural make-up. I loved EVERYTHING.

It was truly the best collection shown this week. I am so glad this time Mr. Bailey decided to show it in England and not Milan or New York. For me, it was a jewel in the crown of British fashion that's been missing for ages.

Express youself

Love Magazine

Looking for a new way to express yourself? Then printed t-shirts can be the answer you are looking for. It's so simple. All you have to do is to find the one that goes with your personality and show or says what you've got on your mind. Just remember that first impression is the one that counts big time.

Fashion designers seem to love this trend as it keep coming back every season and is definitely going to be trendy next summer, too.

If you still cannot find the one and only tee or a vest, then you can, of course, have a bespoke one. How chic and special does this sound! All you need to do is to find a photo, illustration or phrase you absolutely adore or live by, visit IndigoClothing, a company that specialises in customised t-shirt printing and works with organic cotton (so you can be one of the people who actually care for the environment), choose your future garment (trust me, you will be spoilt for choice!) and whether you want a print or embroidery and voilĂ ! It's done and will be with you within 7 working days. I think it's a fabulous idea and am going to get one of my own creations soon. I'll keep you posted.

In a meantime, enjoy some of the editorial photos and a few designer looks and be inspired!
